Private Residence in Plaka, Naxos

An architectural gesture that rests gently upon the rock, embracing it without altering its nature.Between geometry and landscape, light and horizon, the residence unfolds as a moment of quiet balance — a place where architecture and nature meet in harmony.

The residence is situated on the hill of Plaka, within a landscape where light, stone, and horizon coexist in quiet harmony. The design emerges from the desire for an architecture that rests gently upon the rock, embracing it without altering its essence and revealing its strength through the simplicity of form.

The composition unfolds around the natural formations of the site, with the building enclosing the rocks in a U-shaped gesture. This relationship — between geometry and nature — defines the project’s central concept.

Two monolithic slabs, housing the main residence and the guesthouse, are set at a subtle angle to one another, allowing each level to frame the horizon in a distinct way. Poised delicately above the ground, the slabs shelter all interior and exterior spaces beneath them, maintaining a pure and essential geometry free of superfluous elements.

Organized on a single level, the residence features open-plan spaces and expansive glazing that filter light and shape a continuous dialogue between interior and exterior. The material palette — stone, earth-toned renders, and planted surfaces — draws directly from the surrounding landscape, allowing the building to merge almost imperceptibly with its setting.

A gentle ascent along the rock leads the visitor to the planted roof, where the view toward the sea unfolds endlessly — completing the spatial experience as a moment of reconciliation between human and landscape.
